Why this recording

Uploaded in 2025 by the North Sea Jazz festival's official archive channel, this video runs close to an hour and twenty-four minutes, from a show played on 10 July 2005 in the Statenhal in The Hague. Juan de Marcos González leads a large ensemble: on top of the rhythm section and percussion, the description credits three trumpet and flugelhorn players and two trombonists. Tirso Duarte handles lead vocals, David Suárez clarinet and sax. At that length, and in HD, it points to the full set rather than a highlights edit.

Live full concert filmed of the Afro-Cuban All Stars at the North Sea Jazz Festival, captured on Sunday 10 July 2005 at the Statenhal of the Congress Centre in The Hague. Led by Juan de Marcos González, the Cuban ensemble brings together several generations of musicians and blends every style of Cuban music: bolero, cha-cha-chá, salsa, son montuno, timba, guajira, danzón, rumba. The band is world-renowned for the album A Toda Cuba le Gusta (1997), recorded during the Buena Vista Social Club sessions, which featured Rubén González, Ibrahim Ferrer and Orlando “Cachaíto” López. This capture, from the festival’s official archive, conveys the richness of a great Cuban orchestra on stage, between flamboyant brass, choruses and Afro-Cuban percussion. A reference filmed live concert for fans of Latin music, Cuban son and festival captures, documenting a living tradition at the height of its art.
