Why this recording

The credits published by KEXP list a substantial setup for a radio session: four camera operators, three recording engineers, then a separate mix by Jasper Geluk and mastering by Matt Ogaz. The station also links to the band's page at ATO Records, its label. The four songs fill a video of nearly twenty-seven minutes, hosted by Larry Mizell, Jr. The sextet appears in full, with Chris Bruining's percussion and Thijs Elzinga's guitar around the vocals, saz and synth core.

Recorded on 13 April 2022 in the KEXP radio studio in Seattle, this Altın Gün full performance sets Anatolian folk in dialogue with psychedelic rock. Based in Amsterdam, the Dutch-Turkish collective reworks the traditional Turkish repertoire of the 1960s-70s (Anadolu rock) with electric saz, analogue synths and a hypnotic groove. The KEXP live session, filmed with the station’s customary care, captures four tracks — ‘Ordunun Dereleri’, ‘Badi Sabah Olmadan’, ‘Cips Kola Kilit’ and ‘Kalk Gidelim’ — in warm sound and crisp images. Carried by the voices of Erdinç Ecevit and Merve Daşdemir, this live capture reveals a band seasoned on stage, able to sustain a world-music trance without ever losing precision. For fans of world and psych-folk, the session is an ideal gateway into Altın Gün’s universe. A live concert filmed, sourced and complete.
