Why this recording

On 16 June 2014, in the open air at the Parador de Jávea, Antonio Muñoz Fernández plays as a soloist, having built his name accompanying cantaores such as Enrique Morente and Carmen Linares. Grandson of guitarist Antonio Fernández and son of singer Encarnación Fernández, he won the Bordón Minero at La Unión's Cante de las Minas festival in 1989 and was then its official guitarist. Uploaded a month later by the Wolf Ruck channel, the video offers 54 minutes of the recital.

Spanish guitarist Antonio Muñoz Fernández performs at the Parador de Jávea, on the coast of the Valencian Community, for this filmed live flamenco-guitar concert. Alone on stage with his instrument, he unfolds a recital moving through the traditional palos of flamenco — bulerías, soleá, alegrías and other forms — in a reading at once technical and sensitive. The capture highlights the virtuosity of the right hand, the picado, the rasgueados and the rhythmic precision of the compás, the bedrock of flamenco art. Far from large productions, this intimate format leaves all the room to the guitar, its dynamic nuances and the melodic expressiveness of the Andalusian tradition. A full concert illustrating the richness of instrumental flamenco, where the guitar — long confined to accompanying voice and dance — asserts itself as a soloist voice in its own right. To be discovered as a filmed live concert to appreciate the finesse of an art passed down through generations and the singular atmosphere of a recital by the Mediterranean.
