On 23 November 2024, Israeli double-bassist and composer Avishai Cohen recorded this full live session at Little Big Beat Studios in Liechtenstein, captured to 2-inch analogue tape. Often associated with the trio format, Cohen here leads a quintet, delivering a “Studio Live Session” issued as an album in which his singing double bass converses with Itay Simhovich’s piano, Roni Kaspi’s drums, Yuval Drabkin’s saxophone and Yonathan Voltzok’s trombone. The programme showcases the melodic, Mediterranean-tinged jazz of his post-2000 work, moving between originals — “Ora”, “Aurora”, “Roni’s Swing” — a traditional theme (“Hitragut”) and a soulful reading of Gershwin’s “Summertime”. Filmed live without an audience but under real playing conditions, the recording highlights the band’s acoustic warmth and Cohen’s art of counterpoint. A valuable live capture for lovers of refined acoustic jazz, filmed in one of Europe’s most celebrated analogue studios.
