Ballaké Sissoko & guests — Fondation Cartier, Paris, 2021

Published on August 7, 2026 by

In December 2021, the Malian kora master Ballaké Sissoko took over the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris, as part of the Soirées Nomades. This full concert extends onto the stage the spirit of his collaborative album « Djourou », which gathers artists from all horizons around his twenty-one-string instrument. A recognised virtuoso, Ballaké Sissoko displays playing of rare delicacy, where the Mande tradition converses with jazz, classical music and song. He is surrounded by choice guests: his longtime accomplice Vincent Ségal on cello, clarinettist Patrick Messina and singer Arthur Teboul of the band Feu! Chatterton. This live recording restores the magic of a trans-musical exchange, all listening and nuance, in the hushed setting of the Foundation. A reference for lovers of world music, the kora and intimate filmed concerts, to discover for the beauty of the timbres, the finesse of the improvisations and the meeting of sensibilities from different worlds, brought together for the length of a suspended Paris evening full of grace.
