Why this recording

Recorded on 16 February 2014 in the KEXP studio and posted by the station eleven days later, the session runs four songs over nearly twenty-five minutes, hosted by Cheryl Waters. It opens with “Laredo” and ends with “No One's Gonna Love You”, by way of “Everything's Gonna Be Undone” and “Weed Party”. On the production side, KEXP credits Jackson Long as audio engineer, three camera operators — Jim Beckmann, Scott Holpainen and Luke Knecht — and Justin Wilmore as editor. A broadcaster's own video, in HD.

Recorded in 2014 at Seattle’s KEXP radio studios, this full performance captures Band of Horses in the stripped-down, audience-free format that made the station’s live sessions famous. Fronted by Ben Bridwell, the band delivers a filmed concert whose vocal harmonies and reverb-soaked guitars epitomise American indie rock. Away from festival scale, the Seattle group plays in a tight configuration that lays bare the melodic architecture of songs carried by Bridwell’s soaring falsetto. This KEXP live set highlights the blend of americana, folk-rock and indie that has defined the band since Everything All the Time. The clarity of the capture, the close-miked intimacy and the restrained staging make this performance a valuable document for understanding Band of Horses’ organic live sound. A reference filmed live for fans of contemplative North American rock, recorded in one of the most emblematic venues of the Seattle music scene, KEXP’s in-studio live room, in 2014.
