Why this recording

Recorded on 14 March 2025 at Hideout, Number 90's new venue in Hackney Wick, this Mixmag Lab appearance sits between the acclaim for "When Will We Land?" and the release of "Loner" on Ninja Tune. The MixesDB listing opens with José Montana's "The Segment" and closes the hour on "Different", his own single, just out at the time. In between, the selection runs from Defected house to a remix of the Fania All Stars' "Ella Fue". Mixmag posted the video a week after the set.

Barry Can’t Swim, the Scottish producer and DJ, drops into the Mixmag Lab for this roughly hour-long DJ set filmed on 21 March 2025 at Number 90 Hideout, a new venue in Hackney Wick, London. The summery, groove-led house set arrives during a strong run for the artist: breaking through with his 2023 debut ‘When Will We Land?’, he earned nominations for the Mercury Prize, the Scottish Album of the Year, the BRIT Awards and BBC Sound of 2025. This filmed live performance precedes his second album ‘Loner’, released on Ninja Tune on 11 July 2025, whose single ‘Different’ — a club track of chopped breaks, searing synths and a rolling bassline — sets the tone. Captured in the Mixmag Lab’s intimate club format, this full set showcases the sense of melody and groove that distinguishes him on the British electronic scene, spanning house, breakbeat and afro-leaning influences. No official tracklist has been published for this DJ set. Keywords: Barry Can’t Swim, Mixmag Lab London, house, electro, DJ set, full set, live, 2025, London.
