Beethovenfest Bonn — Beethoven, Schütz & Georgian Composers, 2026

Why this recording

Streamed live by Deutsche Welle on September 23, 2026, this Campus Project concert is worth watching above all for its second half. At 51:15 comes “Chmebi”, Tsotne Zedginidze's Georgian fantasia for piano and chamber orchestra, heard in its world premiere; at 1:03:32 the composer improvises at the piano on three Beethoven Bagatelles. The finale pairs the chorus “Europa steht!” from the cantata Der glorreiche Augenblick, Op. 136, with a Georgian traditional song, before “Mravalzhamieri”. On stage, members of the Tbilisi and German youth orchestras play under musical director Mirian Khukhunaishvili.

Filmed by Deutsche Welle at the Beethovenhalle in Bonn, this live concert from Beethovenfest 2026 brings together young musicians from Germany and Georgia as part of the Campus Project, dedicated to cultural dialogue. The programme links Ludwig van Beethoven’s legacy to Georgian modernity: the Allegro from String Quartet No. 14, Op. 131 (in Dimitri Mitropoulos’s arrangement for strings), two sacred pieces by Heinrich Schütz, the Concerto for violin, cello and chamber orchestra by Sulkhan Nasidze, and works by Niko Sulkhanishvili. The concert culminates in a world premiere by young pianist and composer Tsotne Zedginidze, described by violinist Lisa Batiashvili as a “once-in-a-generation talent”. This full concert highlights the excellence of the new generation and the vitality of a classical heritage in dialogue. For fans of live classical music, chamber music and new discoveries, this live concert offers a demanding, original programme in which tradition and modernity respond to each other with finesse in Bonn, Beethoven’s birthplace.
