Why this recording

Trijntje Oosterhuis was no token guest: the Dutch singer had devoted two albums to Bacharach's songs with the Metropole Orkest, and he played piano himself on several tracks. The North Sea Jazz Archive, the festival's official channel, brought this show out of its vaults in 2024, fifteen years after its Saturday, July 11, 2009 slot on the Amazon stage, scheduled from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. Eleven musicians and singers surround the composer: four voices, violin, trumpet, reeds, two keyboard players, bass and drums.

Live full concert filmed of Burt Bacharach at the North Sea Jazz Festival, captured on Saturday 11 July 2009 on the Amazon stage, with Dutch singer Trijntje Oosterhuis as special guest. Drawn from the festival’s official archive, this capture shows the master composer at the piano, surrounded by a full vocal and instrumental ensemble. Author, with lyricist Hal David, of a universal repertoire — “Walk on By,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” “What the World Needs Now Is Love” — Bacharach shaped the pop-jazz songbook of the second half of the twentieth century. Aged 81 at the time of this concert, he remained active and passed his art on to a jazz-festival audience. A valuable live document that captures the harmonic elegance and melodic sense of a legend of American song, in a high-end filmed live concert setting.
