Filmed live concert by Ebo Taylor and the Afrobeat Academy at New Morning, in Paris, France, in 2014. A Ghanaian guitarist, singer and arranger, Ebo Taylor is a founding figure of highlife and afrobeat, a contemporary and peer of Fela Kuti. Rediscovered on the international scene from the 2010s onward, he then toured with the Afrobeat Academy, a Berlin collective bringing together musicians from Poets of Rhythm and Kabu Kabu, led by saxophonist and musical director Ben Abarbanel-Wolff. On the intimate New Morning stage, the hypnotic groove of horns and guitars carries a repertoire drawn from the albums Love and Death (2010) and Appia Kwa Bridge (2012). This live capture illustrates the filmed club-concert format: a performance played live, across several songs, by a master of West African music. As the precise setlist of that night is not documented from a reliable source, it is not reproduced here. Year: 2014, venue: Paris, France. An essential filmed live concert on the world-music side.
