Full concert film of Ennio Morricone on Piazza San Marco in Venice, on 10 and 11 September 2007, as part of the “Peace Notes” concerts dedicated to the victims of 9/11. The Italian composer, a giant of film music, conducts the Orchestra Roma Sinfonietta, the Coro Polifonico del Teatro La Fenice and soprano Susanna Rigacci. This open-air live performance surveys his work in thematic suites: the themes from Once Upon a Time in America and Once Upon a Time in the West, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, “The Ecstasy of Gold,” scores from Italian political cinema, and the sublime “Gabriel’s Oboe” from The Mission, before the encores “Cinema Paradiso” and “Here’s to You.” Released on DVD/CD as Peace Notes – Live in Venice, this live concert film captures Morricone’s command as a conductor and the universal reach of his film music. A landmark recording to rediscover, live and in an exceptional setting, one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century, between lyricism, memory and commitment.
