Why this recording

Produced by Cercle and directed by Derek Barbolla and Pol Souchier, this film lists its credits down to sound engineer Timothée Renard and music curator Philippe Tuchmann. The timed tracklist shows a set built on mashups: the a cappella of Childish Gambino's “This Is America” lands on FISHER's “Losing It” right at the start, then on “El Jefe” at 37:00. The closing tracks look back to classic house, with David Morales's Frankie Knuckles tribute mix at 1:21:20. At 1:30:37, an interview with Norman Cook ends the video.

Live DJ set by Fatboy Slim, filmed on 30 July 2018 inside the glass pod of the British Airways i360 tower in Brighton, United Kingdom, for the French event brand Cercle. Around a hundred metres above the coast, Norman Cook delivers an hour-and-a-half set between house and big beat, filmed with sweeping shots over the city and the sea. A major figure of British dance music and a cornerstone of the 1990s big-beat sound, Fatboy Slim shows off his sense of groove and build-up in a spectacular setting that has become emblematic of the Cercle series. This live capture is a perfect example of the filmed-for-YouTube session format: a performance played live, in a singular location, designed for the image as much as for the sound. The full tracklist was never officially published and is therefore not reproduced here. Year: 2018, venue: Brighton, United Kingdom. A reference filmed live electronic performance.
