On September 23, 2021, Los Angeles punk band Generación Suicida performed a filmed live session in the KEXP Gathering Space, home of Seattle’s influential public radio station. Formed in South Central L.A. in 2010, the quartet plays melodic, Spanish-language punk under the motto ‘música del barrio, para el barrio’ — music from the neighborhood, for the neighborhood. This 2021 session, hosted by Jenn, runs through four songs: ‘Balas, Siempre Balas,’ ‘Fuego,’ ‘Desaparecer’ and ‘Violencia,’ a tight set of short, urgent tracks that captures the band’s raw yet tuneful approach. The lineup features Tony and Kiwi on vocals, Mario on guitar and Juan on bass, while KEXP’s crew — audio engineers Julian Martlew and Kevin Suggs, mastering by Matt Ogaz, and multi-camera capture edited by Scott Holpainen — delivers a polished full performance. As a live document, this KEXP concert highlights the enduring energy of contemporary Latino punk and the station’s commitment to independent live music. Filmed at KEXP’s Seattle studios, it offers an honest snapshot of Generación Suicida’s sound in 2021, balancing DIY intensity with melodic songwriting and a distinctly barrio identity.
