Why this recording

The La Cigale show is the source of the live album A Light in Paris, released on 12 June 2026, the same day the film went up on the band's channel. According to Groundation, the night features the whole of the 2025 album Candle Burning, plus older songs. Ten musicians are on stage, including a sax, trombone and trumpet horn section and two additional singers. The description credits a full crew: direction by Matthieu Yakovleff, recording and mixing by Damien Coutrot and Emmanuel Roy (Baco Studio), and a crane operator.

On 4 November 2025, the American band Groundation gave a full concert at La Cigale in Paris, later captured and released as the live album “A Light in Paris”. Founded in 1998 and led by guitarist, singer and lyricist Harrison Stafford, the Californian group brings roots reggae into dialogue with experimental jazz, in expansive arrangements where horns and improvisation take centre stage. On the Paris stage, Groundation unfurls its deep basslines, polyrhythms and vocal harmonies across a set of more than a hundred minutes that attests to the richness of its writing. This full concert illustrates the singularity of a band that renewed reggae by injecting the freedom of jazz, far from radio formats. A live capture ideal for lovers of adventurous reggae and fusion music, filmed in a legendary venue of the French capital. The exact line-up for this date is not reliably documented.
