Filmed tribute concert dedicated to Moraíto Chico, born Manuel Moreno Junquera, the flamenco guitarist from Jerez de la Frontera who died on 10 August 2011. A central figure of the Jerez guitar school and accompanist to José Mercé, Camarón de la Isla and La Paquera de Jerez, Moraíto embodied the compás and the distinctive sound of his city’s accompaniment guitar. After his death, the flamenco world paid homage to him in 2011 through several concerts, including this gathering of artists around his legacy. Published by the Territorio Flamenko channel, this recording offers almost two hours of living flamenco — bulerías, cante and toque — in the Jerez tradition that Moraíto carried throughout his life. A live concert of nearly one hour and fifty-seven minutes, it documents the transmission of a style, that of a dynasty of guitarists whose work his son Diego del Morao continues today. A valuable document for flamenco enthusiasts wishing to reconnect with the spirit of Jerez and to measure the mark left by one of its most influential guitarists. A filmed concert in homage to a legend of the flamenco guitar.
Homenaje a Moraíto Chico — Jerez de la Frontera, 2011
Why this recording
Uploaded on 11 January 2012 by Territorio Flamenko, an unofficial channel, the video appeared five months after the guitarist's death, during the run of tributes the flamenco world paid him that winter, in Jerez in November and in Madrid in December. Its title, “El flamenco por Moraíto Chico”, frames the evening as the scene's collective answer to one of its most sought-after accompanists. Nearly two hours in one piece, in standard definition: the length of a full festival night rather than a TV digest.
