Jyoty — Boiler Room London, 2019

This filmed live set documents Jyoty stepping behind the decks for Boiler Room in London, during a warm-up night staged on the Thursday before the Notting Hill Carnival in August 2019. The DJ, who had long worked the door at Boiler Room events, makes her noted debut on the collective’s stage: she sees out the “Thursday night carnival warm-up” and carries the crowd through to the end. In keeping with her reputation as an eclectic London-based selector, Jyoty draws on a broad club spectrum — hip-hop, R&B, afrobeats, amapiano and Caribbean-tinged sounds — to build a set shaped for the festive mood of carnival season. Sound for the night is delivered on Void Acoustics loudspeakers. This full set follows Boiler Room’s signature format: a performance filmed facing the crowd, with no official setlist published, where reading the dancefloor matters more than any fixed structure.
