Filmed DJ set by Kaytranada for Boiler Room in Montreal, 18 December 2013. This now-cult live capture catches the Haitian-Canadian producer at the outset, before the international success of the album 99.9%: amid a packed crowd, in Boiler Room’s signature format — crowd-height camera, club energy — he rolls out a mix in which house, hip-hop, funk and soul answer one another with an instantly recognisable sense of groove. The capture conveys the spontaneity of a no-frills set, driven by the remixes and edits that would become his trademark. Often cited as one of the most memorable Boiler Rooms of the decade, this live filmed performance documents the emergence of a major figure in 2010s electronic music. A benchmark DJ set in Montreal in 2013, essential for understanding Kaytranada’s groove and Boiler Room’s live aesthetic.
