Filmed in 2010 in the Great Hall of Vienna’s legendary Musikverein, this live concert captures Chinese pianist Lang Lang at the height of his virtuosity before a sold-out house. Released by Sony Classical as Lang Lang Live in Vienna, the full concert is a demanding recital built around two Beethoven sonatas — the early Sonata No. 3 in C major, Op. 2 No. 3, and the celebrated Appassionata, Op. 57 — before crossing into the impressionist Spain of Book 1 of Albéniz’s Iberia and closing with Prokofiev’s revolutionary Seventh Sonata. As encores, Lang Lang honours the Chopin bicentenary. A reference concert live filmé of the classical repertoire, this video captures the Musikverein’s mythic acoustics, the clarity of Lang Lang’s touch and his dramatic instinct. It is an ideal document for discovering Lang Lang in recital, spanning Germanic rigour, Iberian colour and Russian modernity. Keywords: Lang Lang, Vienna, Musikverein, 2010, live, full concert, piano recital, concert live filmé.
