Captured in 1992 at the Reggae Sunsplash festival, this full concert immortalises Lucky Dube, a towering voice of South African reggae, at the peak of his stage power. Accompanied by his band The Slaves, the singer runs through an urgent, committed set, where anthems against injustice and apartheid sit alongside songs of love and hope. The live recording links classics such as « Feel It », « Back to My Roots », « Together as One », « Prisoner », « Reggae Strong » and « Remember Me », backed by a tight rhythm section, warm brass and backing vocals. A major figure of African music, Lucky Dube carried a conscious reggae far beyond his country’s borders, before his brutal death in 2007. This document, first released on VHS and then on DVD, restores the intensity of an inhabited performance and the fervour of a won-over crowd. A reference for lovers of reggae, world music and archival filmed concerts, to rediscover for the deep voice and universal message of an artist whose legacy remains vivid, carried that night by contagious energy.
