Filmed live session by the Mark Lanegan Band for the 4AD Sessions series, recorded in early 2012 at Pull Studios in Hudson Square, New York, around the release of the album « Blues Funeral ». Captured during rehearsals ahead of a New York show, this deliberately stripped-down performance strips away studio trickery to let the deep, haunted voice of Mark Lanegan — the alternative-rock figure who emerged with Screaming Trees — breathe. The band performs four songs from « Blues Funeral »: « The Gravedigger’s Song », « St. Louis Elegy », « Riot in My House » and « Harborview Hospital ». Directed by Robert Semmer, the video favours the tension and intimacy of a close-quarters live show, between dark rock, electric blues and post-punk textures. A valuable document for rediscovering one of American rock’s most singular singers, who died in 2022. This 2012 recording remains an ideal way into Mark Lanegan’s nocturnal, novelistic live world.
