The running order saves Bad Kingdom for last, after Ghostmother, Reminder and Intruder. A live session filmed at Seattle radio station KEXP on 24 May 2016, this Moderat performance captures the Berlin electronic supergroup in the middle of their III album tour. Moderat brings together Sascha Ring, aka Apparat, and the duo Modeselektor (Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary): a meeting of Apparat’s pop melancholy and Modeselektor’s rhythmic power that became a benchmark of German electronic music. Across four tracks — Ghostmother, Reminder, Intruder and the hit Bad Kingdom — the trio unfolds its synth layers, deep bass and Ring’s haunted vocals in the spare, demanding format of KEXP sessions. Far from a club floor, this live studio capture highlights the group’s production craft and real-time performance. A valuable document for grasping the blend of techno, synth-pop and ambient that made Moderat singular on the 2010s electronic scene.
