On 6 July 2013, Muse performed before nearly 61,000 fans at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, one of the highlights of the band’s The 2nd Law World Tour, whose European leg was dubbed The Unsustainable Tour. This live concert was immortalised as the film and album “Live at Rome Olympic Stadium,” shot with sixteen Sony 4K cameras by Matt Askem and released in November 2013. The British trio — Matthew Bellamy, Christopher Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard, joined on stage by Morgan Nicholls — delivered an oversized stadium production, blending the progressive rock of The 2nd Law with career-spanning classics. The Rome set spanned the group’s catalogue: “Supremacy,” “Plug In Baby,” “Knights of Cydonia,” “Hysteria,” “Time Is Running Out,” “Madness,” and the closing “Uprising” and “Starlight.” Distorted riffs, Bellamy’s falsetto, walls of synths and pyrotechnics made up a show scaled to the Olympic stadium. This 4K capture, one of the most polished in Muse’s live discography, remains a benchmark full concert of the 2010s and a testament to the band’s stage power in 2013.
