Why this recording

Posted on 9 June 2022, the very day the documentary “TÍU” premiered at Tribeca, this session released by the band marks ten years of “My Head Is An Animal”. All fourteen songs from the record are replayed in stripped-down form, in a single video of almost an hour. The audio later took on a life of its own as an album, “My Head Is An Animal (The Cabin Sessions)”, released on 9 December 2022. The video remains the only way to see the five Icelanders play these arrangements.

“The Cabin Sessions” gathers Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men in a cabin in Iceland for a stripped-back, intimate filmed performance, celebrating ten years of their debut album “My Head Is An Animal” (2011 in Iceland, 2012 internationally). The band re-performs the album in full, in acoustic arrangements that reveal the most tender side of their indie folk. The set moves through “Dirty Paws”, “King and Lionheart”, “Mountain Sound”, the worldwide anthem “Little Talks”, “Love Love Love” and “Six Weeks”, carried by the vocal harmonies of Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir and Ragnar Þórhallsson. Released in 2022, the sessions are tied to the “TÍU” documentary premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, which followed the band across their native Iceland. The cabin’s natural, warm setting perfectly matches the folk atmosphere of the repertoire. A precious live capture for rediscovering a 2010s indie-folk classic in a fresh acoustic version.
