Why this recording

Premiered by the Halidon label on 12 March 2021, the video brings the four concertos together in forty-four minutes, conducted by Ricardo Casero. The chapters put Spring at 0:00, Summer at 10:28, Autumn at 21:29 and Winter at 33:15, so any single concerto is one click away; Autumn is the longest, at almost twelve minutes. The label adds a note on the work's composition around 1718-1720 in Mantua and its publication in Amsterdam in 1725.

This filmed live concert presents Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons by the Orquesta Reino de Aragón, ensemble in residence at the Auditorio de Zaragoza, conducted by Ricardo Casero with violinist Elli Choi as soloist. Released in 2021, the capture presents in full the four violin concertos of Opus 8 — Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter — among the most performed pages of the Baroque repertoire. The film highlights the dialogue between the solo violin and the string orchestra, the vivacity of the Allegros and the restraint of the slow movements, in the acoustics of a large Spanish auditorium. A clear, classical reading, it offers a fine entry point into Vivaldi’s music, where each season is tied to a descriptive programme — storms, birdsong, winter ice. Representative of the filmed classical live concert, this document lets you follow closely the players’ gestures and the dramatic construction of a work written three centuries ago and still alive in the concert hall.
