Full concert of Pixies filmed on 30 July 2022 at Roncalliplatz in Cologne, Germany, for WDR’s Rockpalast series. More than three decades after Surfer Rosa, the Boston quartet — Black Francis on vocals and guitar, Joey Santiago on lead guitar, David Lovering on drums and Paz Lenchantin on bass — delivers a taut live set drawing on both classics (Cactus, Wave Of Mutilation, Monkey Gone To Heaven, Gigantic, Hey, Where Is My Mind?) and newer material. This live concert, shot in high definition by German public television, captures the quiet-loud dynamic that made Pixies a blueprint for 1990s alternative rock. The setlist runs nearly thirty songs with barely a pause, carried by Black Francis’s unmistakable voice and Santiago’s angular riffs. A reference full concert for understanding the band’s lasting influence on indie and alternative rock, recorded live at a major European open-air festival in 2022. Essential viewing for fans of the Pixies and of raw, uncompromising guitar music.
