Why this recording

NPR's introduction, written by Stephen Thompson, sets the scene: set-opener “Sunflower” has been certified eighteen times platinum by the RIAA, an all-time record, while closer “Enough Is Enough” had only just come out on the album Austin. Thirteen musicians are credited, Post Malone included, among them four string players and four backing singers. Kara Frame directed and edited, and Josh Rogosin engineered the audio, for an 18-minute set.

Live session by Post Malone recorded at NPR’s Tiny Desk in Washington, USA, and released on 15 August 2023. For his debut behind the famous desk, the American star delivers a four-song, largely acoustic set, surrounded by a full band, a pianist and a string quartet. The stripped-down Tiny Desk format reveals another side of his hits: Sunflower, I Fall Apart and Circles gain warmth and nuance before Enough Is Enough. As singer and guitarist, Austin Post confirms a melodic sense that transcends labels, between pop, hip-hop and folk. This in-studio live capture, filmed without artifice, is a perfect example of the criterion of a performance played live across several songs. A filmed live concert ideal for rediscovering a major pop artist in an intimate setting. Year: 2023, venue: Tiny Desk, NPR, Washington D.C., USA. Essential viewing for lovers of filmed live sessions, acoustic full concerts and modern pop music.
