An internationally renowned Cuban pianist, revealed alongside the Buena Vista Social Club before leading an acclaimed solo career, Roberto Fonseca is also the artistic director of Havana’s Jazz Plaza Festival. This live concert captures him at that very festival in February 2025, during the 40th edition of an event bringing together hundreds of artists from around the world. Backed by his band, Fonseca unfolds a personal Afro-Cuban jazz, irrigated by the island’s traditional rhythms, electronic touches and a pianistic virtuosity inherited from the great masters. A generous live recording of nearly two hours, the video lays out the musician’s palette: introspective ballads, percussive surges toward trance and feverish improvisations carried by a tight rhythm section. Playing Jazz Plaza, on home soil, lends this set a particular intensity, between cultural pride and dialogue with the global jazz scene. A benchmark full concert for fans of Cuban jazz, piano and live Afro-Caribbean music.
