Full live capture of Soulive at Brooklyn Bowl in New York on 15 June 2017, during their « Bowlive 7 » residency. A flagship instrumental soul-jazz trio, Soulive (Alan Evans on drums, Neal Evans on keys and bass, Eric Krasno on guitar) that night welcomes prestigious guests: jazz guitarist John Scofield, young prodigy Marcus King and the horn section The Shady Horns. Over nearly two hours forty-five, the set unfolds the band’s groove alchemy, between Hammond organ, funky guitar and collective improvisation, peaking on reworkings such as « In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed » (Allman Brothers) and « Hey Joe ». A drum solo and extended instrumental workouts give each player room to stretch out, in a spirit of generous, interactive musicianship. This full concert documents one of New York jazz-funk’s finest traditions, the now-legendary Bowlive residency. Savor it for the quality of the guests, the trio’s cohesion and the generosity of the long improvised passages, ideal for fans of soul-jazz and instrumental grooves.
