Filmed live concert by American bassist and multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller at the North Sea Jazz Festival on July 14, 2013, on the Nile stage of Rotterdam’s Ahoy. This full concert presents the Renaissance Tour, named after the album released in 2012, a few months after the bus crash that nearly cost the band their lives in Switzerland. A major figure of jazz fusion and former collaborator of Miles Davis and Luther Vandross, Miller champions a music of cross-pollination in which the groove of electric bass and bass clarinet converses with funk, hard bop and soul. Surrounded by an ensemble of young virtuosos — Alex Han on saxophone, Sean Jones on trumpet, Adam Agati on guitar, Brett Williams on keys and Louis Cato on drums — the bassist embodies his watchword: “returning to the essential aspects of the art.” A reference capture for fans of contemporary jazz and bass, this live concert documents one of the most influential groove players of his generation at the peak of his stagecraft.
