This filmed live concert captures the Californian rap group Souls of Mischief in a live session at KEXP radio’s studios in Seattle, in 2026. An offshoot of Oakland’s Hieroglyphics collective, the group brings together the four MCs A-Plus, Opio, Phesto and Tajai, who emerged in the early 1990s with the classic 93 ‘Til Infinity. On stage they carry a golden-age hip-hop built on interlacing flows, precise exchanges and the jazzy West Coast productions that are their signature. The KEXP capture, spare and head-on, foregrounds the quartet’s chemistry and the vitality of their lyrics performed live, far from playback. Representative of 2020s live rap and of an independent scene’s longevity, this full performance shows how a historic group keeps defending its repertoire in front of mic and camera. A carefully made document for fans of substantive hip-hop, where writing and performance take precedence over effect.
