Why this recording

Filmed at the Rijksmuseum while The Night Watch sat behind a glass enclosure for its restoration, this Sounds Like Art session features sixteen songs in just over an hour. ARTE Concert's chapters trace a route from Roxanne and Every Breath You Take to Fields of Gold, Fragile and August Winds, with When We Dance to close. Several songs from The Last Ship run together in the middle of the programme. Streamed on 5 March 2026, the video is listed as available until 5 March 2027.

Live concert film of Sting, “Sounds Like Art,” captured at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam for ARTE and released in 2026. In this format where music converses with the visual arts, the British singer-songwriter — a former member of The Police and a seventeen-time Grammy Award winner — pays tribute to the museum’s old masters, drawing inspiration from Rembrandt’s The Night Watch as well as works by Vermeer and Judith Leyster. Accompanied by a seventeenth-century guitar loaned for the occasion, Sting performs excerpts from his musical The Last Ship as well as some of his greatest hits, including “Message in a Bottle,” “Shape of My Heart” and “Island of Souls.” This intimate capture, filmed in an exceptional heritage setting, conveys the refinement of a major rock songwriter. A reference filmed live concert for fans of rock, singer-songwriter pop and live performances in remarkable venues.
