This concert, filmed live, gathers an orchestra around the music of The Legend of Zelda series, in a program pre-recorded in Tokyo for Nintendo Live 2024. Conducted by Taizo Takemoto, the performance offers symphonic arrangements of themes originally written by Koji Kondo, the longtime composer of Nintendo’s saga. The repertoire spans several eras of the games, from the ‘Main Theme’ of Breath of the Wild to that of Tears of the Kingdom, by way of ‘Zelda’s Lullaby’, ‘The Ballad of the Goddess’, a medley devoted to Link’s Awakening and ‘Kakariko Village’ from Ocarina of Time. The concert closes on the series’ historic main theme, one of the most recognizable motifs in video game music. The recording highlights the orchestral richness of scores first conceived for limited sound chips and later rewritten for strings, brass and woodwinds. Presented as part of a Nintendo event, this live version shows how the music of The Legend of Zelda is now treated as a concert repertoire in its own right.
