Recorded for iamAVL’s Echo Sessions series in Asheville, North Carolina, this filmed live session presents The Marcus King Band around their 2016 repertoire — the year of their self-titled debut album. A prodigy guitarist and singer from Greenville, Marcus King founded the band in 2013, fusing blues-rock, Southern soul and jam-band improvisation. The capture runs through “Where I’m Headed”, “How Long”, “Slide Door” and “Homesick”, before a medley built on standards by Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters and Jimi Hendrix (“I Just Wanna Make Love To You”, a nod to “Power Of Soul”, “Hoochie Coochie Man”). King’s incandescent playing — blues-soaked riffs and soul-drenched flights — drives this intimate studio-filmed performance. A full concert ideal for discovering one of the most gifted guitarists of his generation in his early days, in a raw, warm live take. The exact session date is not firmly documented.
