Why this recording

Posted by Tony Succar himself, who is also credited as director and producer, the video comes with a very detailed credit list: eight camera operators, a mixing engineer (Edwin Lozano), a string section and four trumpets. The chapters split almost two hours into seventeen segments, including the “Sukiyaki” / “Salsa Caliente del Japón” pairing from 34:00 and a “Toro Mata” lasting more than twelve minutes. The thank-you segment at 1:43:47 leads into the final song, “Hoy Es Tu Día”.

Filmed live concert by Peruvian-American producer and percussionist Tony Succar and his mother, singer Mimy Succar, at the Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima. Released in 2024 as “Alma, Corazón y Salsa,” this show brings together more than thirty musicians for a celebration of salsa laced with bolero and Afro-Peruvian elements. Winner of the Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album, it runs through songs such as “Sin Fronteras,” “Carrusel,” “Toro Mata,” “Quimbara” and “Chabuca Limeña,” with numerous guests including Nora Suzuki, Bartola and Orquesta de la Luz. Between blazing horns, Afro-Caribbean percussion and ambitious arrangements, the capture conveys the fervour of a grand salsa night. A benchmark filmed concert for lovers of Latin and tropical music.
