Full live concert of Toots & The Maytals at the Summerjam festival, at Fühlinger See near Cologne, Germany, on 2 July 2017. This filmed full concert presents Jamaican legend Toots Hibbert, a reggae pioneer — it was he who coined the word ‘reggay’ on the 1968 track Do the Reggay — and founder of one of the most important groups in the history of Jamaican music. On the stage of one of Europe’s largest reggae festivals, Toots unfolds his incomparable soul voice, rooted in gospel, in a set running through his classics: Pressure Drop, Funky Kingston, Monkey Man, his cover of Country Roads and the unavoidable 54-46 That’s My Number. The recording conveys the warmth, groove and generosity of an artist who bridged ska, rocksteady, reggae and soul. A reference live concert for lovers of reggae and Jamaican music in concert, immortalising the infectious energy of a figure who passed away in 2020, filmed before a captivated festival crowd and preserved in full.
