Why this recording

Six days after the 13 September 2026 show at the Aladdin Theater, this video, shot in the room by an audience member, went online; it covers nearly an hour of the night. Its edit has a quirk flagged in the chapters: the song that opened the concert was moved to the end of the video, from 53:56. The chapters place “Fafa” at 10:58, “Yer Gando” at 28:08 and “Samba Si Kairi” at 36:56, so viewers can jump straight to those songs.

On September 13, 2026, Vieux Farka Touré performed at the Aladdin Theater in Portland, Oregon, for a nearly hour-long concert captured in 4K. Son of the legendary Ali Farka Touré, the Malian guitarist and singer has established himself as one of the great voices of desert blues, the music of northern Mali in which the electric guitar converses with Songhai and Tuareg traditions. On stage he unfurls a hypnotic style built from guitar loops, insistent rhythms and vocal melodies in local languages, on tracks such as “Fafa,” “Yer Gando” and “Samba Si Kairi.” This multi-song filmed live set, shot from the audience, conveys the gradual trance of a performance in which desert blues takes on rock hues and luminous improvisation. A live concert to discover for the vitality of world music and the talent of an artist who, while carrying his family legacy, charts his own path on international stages, between Bamako and America.
