On 5 July 2026, Congolese rumba legend Zaïko Langa Langa performed in Luanda, Angola. Formed in Kinshasa in 1969 and long led by Jossart N’Yoka Longo, the band is one of the pillars of soukous: it introduced the ‘cavacha’ rhythm, quickened the tempo and pushed electric guitars and snare drum to the fore, redefining Congolese dance for the post-independence generations. Filmed in concert, this live capture conveys the energy of a large-format orchestra, between long instrumental sequences (the sebene), harmonies, hype-men and dance. This live concert film testifies to the exceptional longevity of a group sometimes compared to the Rolling Stones for its influence on Congolese youth, and to its power to move audiences across Central and Southern Africa. Between whirling guitars and driving grooves, this full concert offers a vivid glimpse of live rumba-soukous in the mid-2020s, carried by a repertoire rich with more than fifty years of history — a genuine world-music heavyweight on stage.
