On 20 September 1983, London’s Royal Albert Hall hosted the A.R.M.S. benefit concert (Action into Research for Multiple Sclerosis), conceived to support Ronnie Lane, former bassist of the Small Faces and the Faces, who was living with multiple sclerosis. This filmed live concert brought together an exceptional rock cast: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page — the three former Yardbirds guitarists — shared a stage together for the first time. Around them stood Steve Winwood on vocals and keyboards, Ronnie Wood, Andy Fairweather Low, Bill Wyman on bass, Charlie Watts and Kenney Jones on drums, and Ray Cooper on percussion. The concert alternates each leader’s set before the collective finales, offering a panorama of British blues-rock carried by a generation of virtuosos. A historic document of live rock, this full concert is remarkable both for its charitable cause and for the unprecedented meeting of three electric-guitar legends, in the prestigious acoustics of the Royal Albert Hall.
