Soul II Soul — Royal Albert Hall, London, 2023

Filmed at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2023, this live concert presents Soul II Soul, the emblematic British collective founded by Jazzie B in the late 1980s. A pioneer of a soul and R&B sound tinged with dub, reggae and club culture, the group marked its era with songs such as “Back to Life” and “Keep On Movin’,” which carried British soul far beyond the UK. On the prestigious Royal Albert Hall stage, Soul II Soul deploys its collective of singers, musicians and percussionists in a groove celebration where rounded bass, choirs and supple beats carry melodies that have become classics. The high-definition recording conveys both the elegance of the venue and the infectious warmth of a show conceived as a party. This roughly one-hour full concert highlights a major musical legacy, between nostalgia for the heyday of the late 1980s and undimmed vitality. For lovers of soul, funk and British Black music, this 2023 live set is an essential occasion, carried by the unifying philosophy dear to Jazzie B.
