Why this recording

Recorded on 15 March 2021 with only the film crew present, as San Francisco's health rules barred any audience, this recital premiered on 28 March. Ana Vidović plays a Jim Redgate guitar. The programme names the transcriptions: the Partita BWV 1013 in Valter Despalj's version, the Sonata BWV 1001 in Manuel Barrueco's. The concert starts at 2:00 after an intro, and the encore, Albéniz's “Asturias”, begins at 53:49. Video by Matthew Washburn, audio mastering by Sienna Digital.

Full-concert video of Croatian classical guitarist Ana Vidović, filmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco and released on 28 March 2021 as part of the Live from St. Mark’s series presented by the Omni Foundation for the Performing Arts. Launched during the pandemic, this series of free online concerts kept the classical guitar scene alive by filming recitals in the remarkable acoustics of St. Mark’s. Trained at the Zagreb Academy of Music and then at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Ana Vidović is one of the most acclaimed guitarists of her generation, praised for her crystalline technique and refined phrasing. Conceived as a complete concert, this solo recital pairs the rigour of the Baroque repertoire with Romantic and modern works central to the instrument, featuring music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Leo Brouwer, Mauro Giuliani, Domenico Scarlatti and Slavko Fumić, rounded off with an encore by Isaac Albéniz. The carefully produced recording highlights the artist’s tone and precision. This live concert is an excellent entry point into the world of classical guitar and a valuable reference for music lovers and guitarists alike.
