This full concert captures Dutch violinist and conductor André Rieu live in Dublin, surrounded by his famous Johann Strauss Orchestra. An ambassador of a popular, festive classical music, Rieu has turned the grand concert of waltzes and well-known tunes into a genuine show, blending virtuosity, humour and communion with the audience. The live recording runs through an eclectic programme, from « Seventy-Six Trombones » to Johann Strauss’s « The Beautiful Blue Danube », by way of « Nessun Dorma », « O Mio Babbino Caro », « Sabre Dance », « You Raise Me Up », « Hava Nagila », « You’ll Never Walk Alone » and a rousing « Radetzky Marsch ». Between opera arias, standards, traditional songs and moments of collective participation such as « It’s a Long Way to Tipperary », the filmed concert illustrates Rieu’s art: making classical music accessible and joyful without yielding on orchestral quality. A reference for lovers of classical music, waltzes and mainstream filmed concerts, to savour for the elegance of the arrangements, the warmth of the orchestra and the festive atmosphere that gradually wins over the whole Irish hall.
