André Rieu — Vrijthof, Maastricht, 2018

Filmed concert by André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra on the Vrijthof square in Maastricht, the Dutch violinist’s home town, during the open-air summer concerts of 2018. Released as “Love in Maastricht,” this live concert captures one of the most popular annual events in light classical music: every summer, Rieu turns Maastricht’s medieval main square into an open-air hall before tens of thousands of spectators from dozens of countries. The 2018 edition, built around the theme of love, featured Viennese waltzes, famous arias and melodies from around the world: “Nessun Dorma,” “Granada,” “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” “You Raise Me Up,” the “Radetzky March” and the inevitable “Blue Danube,” which sends the audience dancing in the aisles. Surrounded by his sopranos, tenors and his sixty-piece orchestra, André Rieu delivers a festive, accessible full concert, true to the formula that has made him the worldwide ambassador of the waltz from Maastricht. A showcase of the showmanship and warmth that define his Vrijthof concerts every year.
