Why this recording

Aired by Mixmag on 18 July 2026, this 1 h 31 set shows Simon Green in DJ mode, apart from Bonobo Live, whose new version designed by Pierre Claude heads out on a North American tour this autumn. Mixmag frames the selection as organic house driven by percussive rhythms. The session coincides with the announcement of Distance In Static, released on Ninja Tune on 11 September and largely completed at Neil Young's Broken Arrow Ranch, according to the channel's notes.

Bonobo — British producer and DJ Simon Green — steps behind the decks for The Mixmag Lab, recorded on 4 July 2026 on the Wagtail Rooftop, high above the City of London skyline. Far from his large live-band shows, this filmed session presents his club-facing, more percussive and dancefloor-driven side, weaving house, downtempo and organic rhythms as day turns to night. The DJ set, captured for Mixmag’s video series, lands just as Green announces his new album “Distance In Static” (Ninja Tune, due 11 September 2026) and drops fresh material such as “Hapuna” and “Rosewood”. It also folds in a remix of Basement Jaxx’s classic “Jump N Shout” and selections from Melé and Narasimha. An intimate, luminous electronic live capture, perfect for hearing Bonobo’s melodic ear applied to the DJ format in 2026.
