On 28 June 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played a nearly three-hour concert in London’s Hyde Park at the Hard Rock Calling festival, during the « Working on a Dream » tour. This live recording, released as « London Calling: Live in Hyde Park », opens with a cover of The Clash’s « London Calling », which gives the film its name. The Boss moves through classics and newer material: « Badlands », « Out in the Street », « The Promised Land », « Born to Run », « The Rising » and « Dancing in the Dark ». The set also makes room for covers (« Good Lovin’ », Jimmy Cliff’s « Trapped ») and rarer moments such as « Jungleland » and « Hard Times Come Again No More ». Driven by the collective power of the E Street Band, with Clarence Clemons on saxophone and Steven Van Zandt on guitar, this filmed concert showcases Springsteen’s stage endurance and his gift for communion. A reference live for lovers of American rock and great open-air concerts, captured in full at a landmark London festival.
