This full concert films Diego El Cigala at the Teatro Gran Rex in Buenos Aires on 29 April 2010, during the tour of his Cigala & Tango project. A Spanish Roma flamenco singer from Madrid who reached a wide audience with the album Lágrimas Negras alongside Bebo Valdés, El Cigala here turns his cante toward another continent: Argentine tango. Recorded for the album and DVD of the same name, this live footage captures him at the height of his raw, gravelly voice, backed by his regular ensemble — Diego del Morao on guitar, Yelsy Heredia on double bass, Jaime Calabuch “Jumitus” on piano and Sabú Porrina on percussion — joined by leading figures of Buenos Aires tango. The set gathers repertoire staples such as Garganta con arena, El día que me quieras, Nostalgias, Alfonsina y el mar and Sus ojos se cerraron, reread through a flamenco lens. It is a live concert where two great popular musics, Andalusian flamenco and the tango of Buenos Aires, meet on the legendary Gran Rex stage. This filmed live concert stands as a key document of the artist’s Latin path.
