Why this recording

The programme goes well beyond sacred repertoire: after Jenkins, Schubert and Bach, the second half turns to the “La La Land” theme (58:28), the Adagio from the Concierto de Aranjuez, the Aria from Villa-Lobos's “Bachianas Brasileiras”, Dyens's “Tango en Skaï” and Popper's Hungarian Rhapsody. Saint-Saëns's “The Swan” closes the concert at 1:27:52. Filming and editing are credited to MedVid production, sound and mixing to Morris Studio, on the artist's own channel.

Filmed live at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb in October 2017, this recording presents Croatian cellist HAUSER — Stjepan Hauser, known as one half of the duo 2CELLOS — in a solo classical programme backed by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra. Conducted by Elisabeth Fuchs, he performs a selection of sacred and romantic pieces among his favourites: Karl Jenkins’s “Benedictus,” Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu,” Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” and the Prelude from Cello Suite No. 1, as well as Albinoni’s “Adagio” and the Handel–Halvorsen “Passacaglia.” Several guests enrich this live concert: the Zvjezdice choir, violinist Lana Trotovsek, guitarist Petrit Çeku and young soprano Josephine Ida Zec. Shot in one of Croatia’s leading venues, this full concert showcases the warm, lyrical tone of HAUSER’s bow across an accessible repertoire that sits between classical and crossover. For viewers who know him mainly from 2CELLOS, the video offers an extended look at the artist headlining his own symphonic recital, blending devotional works, romantic miniatures and orchestral arrangements in a single, carefully paced evening.
