Why this recording

On their own channel, Belah and Pitty Bernad, the two DJs behind MËSTIZA, released this new episode of their “Mëstiza & Friends” series in June 2024. It came six months after “Quëreles”, a debut album that reached number one in its first week according to the description, and ahead of the summer tour “Sacro by Mëstiza”. At 21 minutes, the format is built for video rather than a club set. On the technical side, the rider published by the duo calls for three Pioneer CDJ-3000 players and a V10 mixer.

A live session filmed in the emblematic caves of Granada’s Sacromonte, the historic cradle of flamenco, this MËSTIZA performance weds flamenco with electronic music. The Spanish DJ and producer duo presents a new episode of its “Mëstiza & Friends” series, surrounded by its trusted musicians, singers and dancers. On vocals, Almería cantaora AnaMar displays her full art, alongside the voices of Elyhé and Isa Vega, while Juan Ramón Heredia Cortés and Carmen Beltrán dance to the pulse of a driving set. This marriage of electronics and Andalusian tradition, rooted in an aesthetic inspired by Spanish folklore, illustrates flamenco’s contemporary renewal and its openness to club music. Filmed in the unique setting of the Roma caves, this live capture conveys both the fervour of cante and baile and the danceable energy of the beats. An ideal filmed concert for discovering a modern, daring reworking of the flamenco heritage, between roots and innovation.
