Michel Sardou — Zénith de Saint-Étienne, 2011

Why this recording

Twenty-six songs in 1 hour 48 minutes: the setlist opens with “Putain de temps” and saves for the very end “Être une femme 2010”, which gave the tour its name, placed after “Les Lacs du Connemara” and “Salut”. The credited line-up has seventeen musicians around the singer, including four strings, violins, viola and cello, and six backing singers, not counting the instrumentalists who also sing backing parts. The video was posted in 2024 by an unofficial channel, in standard definition.

This full concert presents Michel Sardou during his “Être une femme 2010” tour, filmed on 10 and 11 February 2011 at the Zénith de Saint-Étienne. The performance gave rise to the “Confidences et retrouvailles” release, issued in 2011 on CD, DVD and Blu-ray and captured with ten cameras. A monument of French chanson, Michel Sardou here revisits more than four decades of his career through a selection of his greatest hits and songs drawn from his twenty-fifth studio album, “Être une femme 2010,” released in August 2010. Backed by a full orchestra featuring rhythm section, guitars, keyboards, strings and backing vocals, the singer offers a complete concert blending timeless classics with more recent material. The tour, which began at the Olympia in Paris in January 2011, travelled across France, Belgium and Switzerland before closing at the Palais des Sports in Paris. This full concert live at the Zénith de Saint-Étienne offers a representative overview of Michel Sardou’s stage repertoire, a defining figure of French variété, and stands as a carefully produced document of his live presence at the turn of the 2010s.

Neither Michel Sardou nor Zénith de Saint-Étienne, Saint-Étienne appears elsewhere in the catalogue: what follows rests on the ground itself, Chanson from the 2010s.
