Mumford & Sons — 3FM Mega Exclusive, 2019

A live session by Mumford & Sons recorded in the Netherlands for Dutch radio 3FM’s “3FM Mega Exclusive” in 2019, as a private concert won by a listener. A flagship of the British folk-rock revival, the London band led by Marcus Mumford presents songs from its album “Delta” (2018) alongside repertoire classics: “Woman,” “Awake My Soul,” “Wild Heart,” a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire” and “Only Love.” In an intimate format, the band returns to its signature: full vocal harmonies, crescendo dynamics and acoustic instrumentation blending guitar, banjo, keyboards and double bass. The capture, carefully framed on the musicians, conveys the band’s infectious fervour in close quarters. A filmed live concert representative of the 2010s, this session shows how Mumford & Sons carried Anglo-Saxon folk onto the big stages, without ever abandoning the warmth and closeness of its early days, and makes a fine live document of the band at the height of the “Delta” era.
