Paco de Lucía — Leverkusener Jazztage, 2010

Full concert of Paco de Lucía filmed live at the Forum in Leverkusen on 6 November 2010, during the 31st edition of the Leverkusener Jazztage in Germany. At 63, the Andalusian guitarist, a defining figure of modern flamenco and a pioneer of its fusion with jazz, appears with the touring band of the period, an extension of his album Cositas Buenas. Alongside his guitar are a second guitar played by his nephew Antonio Sánchez, the harmonica and keyboards of Antonio Serrano, Alain Pérez on bass, percussion by Israel Suárez “Piraña”, vocals from Duquende and David de Jacoba, and the dance of Farruco. The live recording captures a dense sonic architecture where dazzling picado and rhythmic precision converse with cante and zapateado. The programme runs through signature pieces such as Zyryab, Cositas Buenas, Luzia and Convite, and closes with the famous Mediterranean Sundance / Río Ancho performed with guest guitarist Al Di Meola. A valuable document of one of the last great ensembles led by the master, who died in 2014.
